We recently had the pleasure of installing and painting baseboards for a lovely home in the area. Baseboards are often the unsung heroes of a room—they hug the walls, protect them from scuffs, and add just the right finishing touch that can elevate the look of any space.
The existing baseboard was flat profile stock. The owners wanted a baseboard with more character. We removed the existing baseboard, prepped the wall, procured the new material, and started work.

Baseboard Installation Cost in Manhattan
Like most carpentry jobs, the price varies. Some companies may offer a price per linear foot for installation. However, those quotes are usually designed for new builds with no furniture or obstructions.
Removing existing baseboards will typically damage the wall, so a portion of the labor cost needs to be reserved for repair.
Factors that affect baseboard installation pricing:
Choosing, sourcing, and delivering the baseboard material.
Working hours and insurance requirements (NYC buildings)
Is the baseboard raw wood or coming primed? Raw is an extra step of prep.
How many corners are there? Any tricky spots where the baseboard meets the door frames?
Are your floors level? Most floors are not perfectly level so you can scribe the baseboard. Scribing is trimming the bottom edge of baseboard so that it exactly follows any uneven contours or “waves” of the floor. This process can add to the labor cost.
Do you want shoe molding or quarter round at the bottom of the baseboard? This small piece, usually 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch, covers the gap between the floor and the baseboard. If your floors are uneven, this is another option to help give the wall a finished look.
Once the baseboards are installed, they need prepping. Filling nail holes and caulking gaps where the baseboard meets the wall or door frame.
If the place is furnished during the work, it will add to the cost and complexity of the project.
An empty 10ft by 10ft room usually starts at $1200 plus the material to install new baseboards, prep them, and paint them.
