Wallpaper Installation in a Hallway in Park Slope 11215
Historic architectural styles like Italianate, Greek Revival and Gothic Revival made an impact on Brooklyn’s 19th century home construction. Three to four-story style townhomes, often with a front stoop, bay windows and exterior ornamentation, exuded wealth and luxury of the time. Lifestyles within these walls deserve special treatment, and we were recently hired to install an interesting wallpaper in the interior hall.

Prepping walls for wallpaper is not for the inexperienced. There’s a lot of cleaning, small repairs, some sanding and more cleaning until the walls are perfectly smooth, and there are no imperfections at the intersections with molding and trim. Measuring, cutting and installing each piece is an exercise in art, science and adhesive with keen eyes on matching patterns.

Austrian-Swedish architect and wallpaper designer Josef Frank states: Bright colours and powerful patterns can take away the feeling of confinement.” He also said: “Even a pokey little cubicle can become exciting with striking wallpaper.” Touché! This homeowner selected Frank’s pastel Söndagsmorgon which means Sunday morning in Swedish. Whimsical flowers and ferns now grace this interior hall, and we felt a skip in our step when the job was done. It’s a light, cheerful complement inside the home.
