Peeling mullions, chalky aluminum, scratched brass, and faded black storefronts stripped to bare metal and refinished on site — overnight and on weekends, without closing the store or replacing the frames.
A storefront is the first thing a customer judges. And it takes the worst of New York: road salt, exhaust, rain off the sidewalk, delivery carts, gum and sticker residue, and pressure washing that wears down the metal coating. Paint flakes off the mullions, aluminum turns chalky and white, brass goes brown and blotchy, and a black storefront fades to a dusty gray.
Replacing a storefront system means glass, permits, and weeks with the space dark. Refinishing does not. We strip or sand the old coating off the existing metal, correct the surface, and respray or repolish it in place. We usually complete this in a few overnight shifts, for a fraction of the cost of new framing.
Mullions — the metal bars framing the glass — are where a storefront shows its age first. The factory coating breaks down, moisture gets under it, and the paint lifts in sheets. Sanding and repainting over that only buys a season. We strip the mullions and door frames back to sound metal, etch and prime them, and spray a finish that bonds to the substrate.
What we handle:
How it works
We meet you at the storefront, identify what the metal actually is — painted aluminum, anodized aluminum, steel, brass, bronze, or stainless. Sometime we will test a small section to see what is under the existing coating. We can also finish a sample area so you, your landlord, or your tenant can see the exact color and sheen before anything is approved.
We mask and protect glass, signage, sidewalks, and neighboring storefronts. Work is staged after close — nights, early mornings, and weekends — so the store keeps trading and the sidewalk stays clear during business hours. For an empty space in turnover, we run straight through.
Old paint and failed lacquer come off. We strip, etch, prime, and spray painted storefronts to a smooth, factory-look finish in any color. Brass and bronze are polished back to bright or evened out to a uniform patina. Stainless is refinished along the grain to remove scratches, etching, and graffiti.
A clear protective coating goes on where appropriate so the finish holds up to salt, rain, and daily cleaning. You get a final walk-through and photo documentation for your files, your board, your landlord, or your incoming tenant.
Can you paint an aluminum storefront black?
Yes, and it is one of the most common things we are asked for. We strip the existing finish, etch and prime the aluminum, then spray on the color. We spray, not brush, so there is no roller texture or brush marks on the mullions.
Our storefront paint is peeling and flaking. Can it be fixed without replacing the frames?
Almost always. Peeling means the old coating lost its bond to the metal, so painting over it will fail again in a season. We strip it back to sound metal, prime it properly, and respray. Replacement is rarely necessary unless the framing itself is damaged.
Do we have to close the store while you work?
Most likely no. Storefront work is scheduled overnight, early morning, or on weekends so you do not lose a selling day. The sidewalk and entrance are clear and clean before you open.
We’re turning the space over for a new tenant. How fast can this be done?
A single storefront is often two to four overnight shifts. A full corner space or a wide multi-bay frontage typically runs about a week. In a vacant space, we can work straight through and move much faster.
Our brass storefront has gone dark and blotchy. Can it be brought back?
Yes. We can polish brass and bronze storefronts, door frames, push bars, and kick plates back to a bright finish and seal them.
Can scratched or graffiti-etched stainless steel be saved?
Usually. Refinishing the grain of the stainless removes scratches, key marks, sticker residue, and acid etching, so you don’t have to replace the panel. Best to send pictures or schedule an onsite visit to confirm.
Do you carry insurance and provide a COI?
Yes. Certificates of insurance naming the building, the owner, the managing agent, and the tenant are issued before the crew shows up.
At the end of the day we want customers to stop on the sidewalk and say WOW.
