Manhattan Window Mullion Spraying

Painting Window Mullions in the Upper West Side

AFTER

Why We Spend as Much Time Taping and Protecting as We Do Spraying

Here’s something most people don’t expect: on a mullion job, half the work happens before the spray gun ever comes out.

A great finish needs great prep. You don’t get one without the other.

On a recent Manhattan project, the client wanted their metal window mullions a new color to match their vibe. Without replacing a single window, we can change the whole space with a new paint color.

So we start where every good finish starts. With protection.

We built containment first. We put up plastic walls to fully close off the work area.

Then came the taping. Every pane of glass, every gasket, every sill, the floors and the furniture got masked and covered. It took about as long as the spraying itself. That’s slow, tedious work, and it’s the reason the final result looks clean instead of sloppy.

Cheap paint jobs get cheap by skipping this step. We do the opposite.

Then the spraying. We used a urethane enamel built for metal. Here’s why we like it:

  • It’s hard. It stands up to abrasion, cleaning, and daily contact.
  • It looks factory-smooth. Sprayed properly, it levels out with no brush marks.
  • It holds its color and sheen. It resists fading and chalking.
  • It’s easy to clean. Dirt wipes off without hurting the finish.

The result: mullions that look like they came straight from the manufacturer, at a fraction of what replacement would cost.
