NYC Vault and Safe Resurfacing in Grasmere 10305
In 1898, Richmond officially stepped into its existence as one of the five boroughs of New York City. It was re-named Staten Island in 1975 and is the most southern of the boroughs. Its roughly 60 square miles boasts 35 miles of waterfront. Bridges connect to New Jersey and Brooklyn, but the Staten Island Ferry is more fun, and free. There’s quite a bit to see and do, pizza to eat and, for us, an interesting metal resurfacing project on a vault.
Stainless steel – a rust-less kind of steel – was elusive to many until 1913 when Harry Brearley of Sheffield, England, added chromium [12.8% content] to molten iron. That produced a metal that does not rust. Thank you, Harry. While stainless refers to its aversion to corrosion, it can experience a little rust as materials break down over time.
Our expert crew is experienced in metal surfaces of all kinds, and they knew precisely what to do … remove any indication of rust, then clean and polish this safe, the case, doors inside and out and a little box. Once all was smooth and clean, they expertly sprayed two coats of lacquer on all the surfaces, for a resinous, durable, shiny, varnish-like coating. After admiring our work, and being confident the owner was satisfied, we went out for some of that incredible Staten Island pizza, known for its thin crust and crispy bottom.
