Bed-Stuy Brownstone Paint Stripping
The distinctive beauty of wood is unparalleled for Mother Nature’s earthy colors and intricate grain patterns. It is the quintessential glory of many New York City brownstone interiors. From doors and doorway trim to baseboards, ornate window moldings, cabinets and floors, wood was the material of choice for its stunning decorative and durable qualities. We found layers of decades-old paint and dirt concealing the inherent beauty of exquisite wood trim in this Brooklyn home and went right to work removing it.
Stripping paint by hand is a careful, tedious process. Our team applied a non-toxic product before gently wiping, scraping and brushing off the paint to reveal lustrous wood grain and finely sculpted trim. A small brush hook was gently used in tiny nooks and crannies. We removed trim pieces from over the windows to work on it in a more stable position and not damage any of the carving.
We finished everything with a clear coat of polyurethane for protection with touch of shine. We were as blown away by the results as the homeowners. Their home and hearts are now warmed with the timeless quality of natural wood trim hand-crafted more than 100 years ago.
