FiDi Demo, Wallpapering, and Vanity Replacement

BEFORE

From cheesy to chic, we were only too happy to help this homeowner change out the garish burnt orange wall and rectangular, utility room-style sink. The mirror looked like a cast-off of a full length mirror kind of awkwardly hung up high. Prepping the walls for a smooth transition to wallpaper is always a mission of patching, smoothing, sanding and sanding again. Once the wallpaper, especially this light-tone botanical print, adheres to a surface, any imperfection behind it will show.

The statement piece here might well be the vanity, offering storage and a lower shelf for powder room supplies. The comfortable smokey gray piece also provides a nice surface for a vase or candle, fingertip towels, and soap and lotion dispensers. However, the choice of the bronze mirror frame, matching old-fashioned faucets and drawer knobs adds a splash of nostalgia which is perfectly fitting in a 1940s building with its own storied history.

Powder rooms rarely have windows, and this soft sugar white and mystic beige wall covering creates a bright interior in a small space. The mood is soothing, neutral and airy. If we were to name this enchanting, freshly renovated powder room, we’d go with Serena for tranquil, or Shiloh for peace, or Winnie, from the Welsh Winifred, meaning blessed peace. We are always enamored with designers and homeowners with clever ways we can step in and fulfill their home life visions, even in small spaces.
